Crust News is operated by an independent publisher based in the Netherlands and is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What data we collect
When you subscribe, we collect your email address and, if you become a paid subscriber, your payment details are processed by Stripe. We do not store payment card data ourselves.
We measure readership with Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly service hosted in the EU. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data and does not track you across websites. It gives us totals such as page views and referring sites, nothing that identifies you.
If you submit a tip via Hush Line, we do not collect identifying information. Hush Line is designed to protect source anonymity.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so we do not show a cookie banner. The only cookies on this site are strictly necessary ones, which the law allows without consent:
- Member sign-in (
ghost-members-ssr,ghost-members-ssr.sig): set only when you sign in, to keep you signed in. - Payment security (
__stripe_mid,__stripe_sid): set by Stripe, our payment processor, for fraud prevention on subscriptions and donations.
Your browser also stores a few settings locally on your own device, such as light or dark mode, dismissed banners and notification preferences. These never leave your device.
Our fonts are hosted on our own servers, so loading our pages does not send your IP address to Google Fonts.
Some articles embed videos or posts from other platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram or Bluesky. Those embeds are served by the platform and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.
Why we collect it
We use your email address to send you newsletters and account information. We use aggregate analytics to understand how our content is read. We have no advertising partners and do not sell or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes.
Your rights under GDPR
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You have the right to withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at complaints@crustnews.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

We retain subscriber data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed within 30 days.
